About 3dfx Interactive

Founded in 1994 by Ross Smith, Gary Tarolli, and Scott Sellers, 3dfx created the first mainstream 3D graphics accelerator. Their Voodoo Graphics card (1996) revolutionized PC gaming, making smooth 3D graphics accessible to consumers for the first time. Despite early dominance, the company folded in 2002.

Revolutionary Products:
  • 1996: Voodoo Graphics - first consumer 3D accelerator
  • 1998: Voodoo2 - SLI multi-GPU technology
  • 1999: Voodoo3 - integrated 2D/3D solution
  • 2000: Voodoo5 - advanced but ultimately failed
Lasting Impact:
  • Pioneered dedicated 3D graphics acceleration
  • Invented SLI (Scan Line Interleave) technology
  • Made games like Quake and Unreal Tournament possible
  • Highly collectible retro gaming hardware today
