About XGI Technology

Founded in 2003 as a spin-off from SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems), XGI aimed to compete in the budget and mainstream GPU market. Despite releasing several graphics products, XGI struggled against established competitors and was eventually acquired by AMD in 2006, primarily for their engineering talent.

Brief History:
  • 2003: Formed from SiS graphics division
  • 2004: Volari series graphics cards
  • 2005: Struggled with driver issues
  • 2006: Acquired by AMD for engineering talent
Market Challenge:
  • Attempted to break into competitive GPU market
  • Focused on budget and mainstream segments
  • Limited success due to driver and performance issues
  • Engineers contributed to later AMD GPU development
